Taxonomic identification of bacterial species is vital in many environmental and healthcare applications to inform on the appropriate course of action. The 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing workflow provides a low cost, efficient method to identify the phylogenetic composition of a mixed sample of bacteria. 16S library preparation typically takes 3 hours and it involves two rounds of PCR and two bead clean up steps. We present an exciting, renewed 16S library preparation protocol using Quantabio’s repliQa HiFi ToughMix to reduce overall costs while accelerating time to results.
